Trucking Moves America

The Christmas tree that will be displayed on the US Capitol lawn for the holiday season is en route to Washington D.C. and is making a stop in Fayetteville.

  • Gather: On Nov. 13 from 11-1p the US Capitol Christmas tree will be at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Anyone is welcome to come see the tree and participate in local festivities, which include free hot cocoa. 
  • From the forest: This year’s tree is a 84-foot tall White Fir from the Six Rivers National Forest in California with the nickname “Sugar Bear” and was provided by the U.S. Forest Service.

Collaboration For The Win

The Honors College at the University of Arkansas, in collaboration with University Relations, produced two videos, which won recognition in the 17th Annual Davey Awards competition.

  • Picked: The videos made by the U of A team were originally created for an issue of the Honors College magazine, and were submitted among 2,000 entries to be considered for the Davey Awards.
  • Created: The first video, Band Aid, won awards for general info and craft, and best use of music. The second video, The Legacy of BAD Times: Black Student Experience at the U of A, won an award for general diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Have you seen a truck driving itself recently? Walmart has teamed up with an autonomous vehicle company that is operating daily on a delivery route in Bentonville. 

  • Solo: Walmart and the automated vehicle company Gatik started the program in Dec. 2020, and since August of this year, two trucks have been on a daily 7-mile loop for 12hrs with no safety driver.
  • Quote: “[Walmart's] thrilled to be working with Gatik to achieve this industry-first, driverless milestone." This innovation is big for grocery store logistics by potentially reducing cost as much as 30%
