Riggins Homebuilding Operations Selling To D.R. Horton

D.R. Horton Inc., the nation's largest homebuilding company, is working out a deal to purchase the operations of Fayetteville homebuilders Darin and Kevin Riggins.

  • Family business: What began with building a personal home in 1992 has grown into own of Northwest Arkansas's largest homebuilding operations, building an average of 300 homes a year.
  • A big deal: The family-owned business includes Riggins Properties, Riggins Construction and Development, and Riggins Custom Homes, and while it is unclear as to which of the operations will be included, the total deal is believed to be more than $100m.

Northwest Arkansas Organizations Fighting To End Hunger

Northwest Arkansas Food Bank

It is estimated that one in eight neighbors in Northwest Arkansas faces hunger and food insecurity, sparking the work of multiple organizations in the region to address this problem of hunger.

  • Take it to the bank: The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank has made a significant impact on the community – distributing 14m pounds of food in 2021 – and is always seeking volunteers to serve in their warehouse, community garden, and mobile pantries around the area.
  • From the source: Also combating food insecurity in the area is Lifesource International in Fayetteville, which opens its food pantry to the public Mon, Wed, and Thur from 8:30-11:30a and Mon and Thur from 6-7p. Lifesource also provides programs for adult education, clothing, and after-school care.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Travel + Leisure listed Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art among its list of museums in the U.S. that prioritize accessibility for visitors of all abilities.

  • Above and beyond: Beyond having a completely wheelchair-accessible indoor facility, Crystal Bridges offers a variety of programs for visitors with disabilities, including sign language tours, EnChroma glasses for colorblind visitors, "Creative Connections" programs for adults with early-stage Alzheimer's, and more.
  • The whole family: The museum hosts a family access night, including free tours, activities, and performances, and offers free summer day camp opportunities inclusive to neurodiverse and neurotypical children.

U of A Begins Restoration Project Of Fine Arts Center

University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas will begin the renovation of the Fine Arts Center next month, transforming the historic building to meet the needs of today's students.

  • A modern classic: The Fine Arts Center opened in 1951 and gained recognition for its cutting-edge design by architect Edward Durell Stone; the renovation will provide modern updates while staying true to Stone's original vision.
  • Full house: The center hosts classes within Fulbright College's departments of Music, Theatre, and Art, as well as the Fine Arts Library.

Walmart AMP Reports Record Breaking Year

The Walmart Arkansas Music Pavillion in Rogers saw a record-breaking year, hosting 39 shows in the 2022 Cox Concert Series, the most performances ever hosted in a season.

  • Admission: Ticket revenue increased by 71% this year, hitting $14.2m over last year's $8.3m. Ticket sales topped pre-covid days, rising to 275,000 tickets sold over 232,475 in 2019.
  • Packed out: The number of sellout shows at the AMP this year rose from one to eight compared to last year, the largest of which was Morgan Wallen which became the venue's highest-attended show to date and saw the highest food and beverage sales in the venue's history.
